Relaxing The Body At The End Of Exercise
Relaxing The Body
Knowing how to relax is just as important as knowing how to exercise. Try it for tem minutes after you’ve been doing something strenuous or for ten minutes before you go out on an important date. You’ll be surprised how good it will make you feel.
Lie flat no the floor, preferably on a rug or folded blanket. Too, if the room is at all chilly. Have your arms stretched out a little way from your sides, and your legs slightly apart. Close your eyes.
Turn your attention to your feet, and for a moment tense all the muscles in your feet as tight as you can – then let them go, and be aware of your feet feeling relaxed and heavy. Gradually work up your body, doing the same thing with your legs, your bottom, your stomach, your chest, your back and shoulders, your hands and arms, your neck, your hand and your face. Imagine yourself feeling heavy, like a sack of potatoes, and be conscious of the floor pushing up underneath you. When you feel completely heavy all over, turn your mind to something pleasant-a beautiful place you enjoy being in, for example.
When you feel you’ve relaxed for long enough, turn your attention back to your feet and give them a little wriggling each bit in turn, until you’ve got every bit of it moving again. Then sit up, take a deep breath, and you’ll be ready for anything.
