Parineeta
to Kismat Konnection Vidya has established herself as one of the most
promising actresses of the industry within a very short span of time.
After giving back-to-back hits with power-pack performances in movies like
LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI, EKLAVYA, HEYY BABY, BHOOL BHULAIYAA she has entered
the league of leading ladies of Bollywood. Since her last release HALLA
BOL in January this year she has been not been much in the news, but now
she is back in action with her upcoming release KISMAT KONNECTION directed
by Aziz Mirza. Recently we had a detailed conversation with Vidya where
she shared her excitement for KISMAT KONNECTION, her personal life and
much more...here are the excerpts.
Tell us about KISMAT KONNECTION? And also elaborate about your
character?
It is literally about the KISMAT KONNECTION between the two characters Raj
Malhotra and Priya who never get along well, who always fight whenever
they meet. But destiny has something different in store. Despite their
constant clashes destiny brings them together. How Raj and Priya become
friends and get to know each other and ultimately relationship blossoms
between them. The film tells you about how destiny has a strong influence
over life. How it connects you to another person whom you never expected
to be with in life. As it is rightly said "Jiske saath tumhari kismet
connection honi hoti hai use aap nakar nahi saktey aur jo aapki kismet mai
nahi hai aap laakh koshish karle aap ko nahi mil paayega..." so its all
upto destiny. I am playing Priya in this film; she is very vivacious,
happy-go-lucky who loves life & has a positive approach towards life. She
is from a well to do decent family from Toronto. Her upbringing is such
that she loves to be happy, easily mingles with people, who always want
her environment also joyful. |
Right from your first movie you had a chance of portraying crucial
characters, what's the strength of this character?
I think the strength of this character is that she is the one who changes
Raj's (Shahid) life. She is very light hearted and carries a positive
outlook towards life, according to her every problem has some cause
attached to it, everything happens for good. The thought process which she
carries has a definite impact on his life. He learns to be positive in
life.
How keen were you to be a part of this project?
I always had a desire to work with Aziz uncle atleast once. On one fine
day I suddenly got a call from Aziz uncle's office. I met Uncle and he
said we are still under scripting stage. It was then when I showed my
interest in the project. Normally I don't say this to anyone but when I
met him I went ahead to tell uncle that if not as an actor than as an
assistant I am going to be a part of this project. I would love to assist
you and I want to work with you.
What appealed you to be a part of KISMAT KONNECTION?
Aziz uncle's films depict whole lot of positivity. Frankly speaking I love
the simplicity of his films and that's what urged me to go ahead. The way
he represents simplicity in his films. His genre of films is about real
people, about common man's struggle, about real emotions, about situations
which we deal in our day-to-day life.
Aziz Mirza has kept a track record of successful films and even your graph
till date is successful, does it pressurize you?
Inshaah Allah film should work well. Each day is different, each film is
different. I am not pressurized as such, but yes I do hope that the film
should do really well because everyone has put their best efforts. After
SALAAM-E-ISHQ I have become more cautious. Infact till today we can't gulp
down the fact that SALAAM-E-ISHQ didn't work. We all were very confident
about the film. When it bombed at the box-office it was a real shock for
all of us and because of it somewhere I was shattered. It was at that time
I realized that it's not necessary that a film to be a hit it requires big
star cast (though SALAAM-E-ISHQ was well made film with good stories as
well) |
Your experience working with Shahid
Oh Shahid is a very co-operative actor, an unselfish person. He is not
among those self-absorbed people who will try to overshadow others. He in
fact takes care of his co-stars as well. What is really inspiring about
Shahid is that he is very very disciplined actor. If he has his body shot
than he will not even have an ounce of sweet the entire day. And that is
why I really admire his hard work and dedication towards work.
Off late a lot has been written and spoken about you and Shahid, what do
you have to say about this?
This is not the first time I have been linked with my co-stars. Right from
the beginning of my career media has been linking me with some or other
star from the industry. The only difference is that initially when I was
knew I used to get irritated easily; I used to get upset with such rumours
easily but in the case of Shahid I am not at all upset. Right from the day
when we returned from Toronto I have been constantly hearing so many
stories about my linkups with Shahid. And because of that I feel amused
and at times I and Shahid laugh a loud on these baseless stories. Now I
have become used to such crap. Yes we are good friends and share a very
good rapport. But that doesn't mean we are going around. If I love someone
than why would I hide it?
Because of such rumours or stories did you face awkwardness while shooting
with Shahid I think somewhere Shahid was not comfortable with these
rumours, he was facing that awkwardness as per my perception. And that too
when we shot two songs in Mumbai. Otherwise when we were in Toronto we
hardly bothered about it. For me, as I said I don't get affected by such
things now. I never felt awkward. I am friendly person and I stay the way
I am.
You hail from a non-filmy background, many controversies surrounded you
but still you always handled it beautifully, fought it courageously
without going underground or hiding yourself
Ohh yeah! Firstly thank you very much about this. But I feel I am still
learning how to handle it. When I was new to this industry I used to get
scared but then I realized that if I am not doing anything wrong why
should I hide myself or why should I runaway from these situations.
Because problems are perpetual, Infact I should face it so as to learn
from these experiences. I think it's because of my upbringing I have
learnt to fight the problem rather than hiding from it or running away
from it.
How much do you personally believe in 'Kismat' (destiny)
I personally do believe in 'Kismat' (destiny) a lot. But at the same time
I also believe in efforts. 'No pain no gain' that's what I prefer. Unless
you give your 100% you won't get the fruits. But I do feel that everything
is pre-determined in life. Destiny does influence each of us and it does
have some connections in each of our lives. |
