Misbah ul Haq: A New Test Match Captain of Pakistani Cricket Team
|The latest decision of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint Misbah-ul-Haq as Test Team Skipper not only surprised the cricket fans but also the new Capitan Misbah himself who said “frankly speaking, I was not expecting captaincy but I was hopeful about making a comeback to the international cricket”.|
|36 years old middle order batsman had played 19 Test matches at batting average of 33.60 and 56 ODIs with batting average of 39.05. He is the sixth captain of Pakistan Cricket Team during the turbulent tenure of Ijaz Butt as Chairman of PCB.
According to Chief Selector Mohsen Khan the selection of Misbah as Test Captain is because of his previous clear record and need to strengthen the Middle order of Pakistan Cricket Team. Another important factor which contributed towards the ascendancy of Misbah as Test Captain is the tussle between PCB and Yonis Khan. Mohsen Khan himself said that we were considering Yonis Khan as Test Captain but we have to take him out of equation because he is not cleared by PCB.
Although Misbah is not in good batting form at international level but he performed well at domestic level which also encourages the selectors to take this bold decision. Now Misbah has to face a tough challenge in UAE against South Africa. Misbah is also the part of Pakistan’s ODI team which will play against South Africa in UAE under the leadership of Shahid Afridi.
The dilemma of Pakistani Cricket is that it has failed to find a suitable player to lead Test Team after the retirement of Inzamam-ul-Haq. Misbah is the fourth Captain of Pakistan Cricket Team in year 2010 alone. Weather he can perform well or not we will see in near future but the PCB need to adopt a long-term policy regarding the leadership and players instead of following short term policies which have ruined the Pakistani Cricket.
