Kapoor turns 28 on September 21st. We take a look at the
beautiful actress' journey from her debut in 2000 to basking
in new glory in 2008.
In 2000, a plump and fresh faced actress played a shy yet
stubborn refugee in her debut film. She had very high
standards to live up to: that of National award winning
actress Karisma Kapoor and her impressive Kapoor lineage. Did
she impress? Yes, of course. She won hearts with her
restrained performance and was touted to
become the star of the future.
Cut to 2007, Kareena has fulfilled |
 her
starry ambitions and how! She won
audiences and critics alike with her
spunky performance as the beautiful and
talkative Geet, making Jab We Met a
smashing success winning all the awards.
Kareena Kapoor is now a force to reckon
with, both as an actress and a celebrity.
We trace her journey from a chubby
teenager to a super hot, super svelte
star!
Kareena's first big hit was Mujhe Kuch
Kehna Hai followed by a spate of big
banner films like Yaadein, Asoka and
Ajnabee which failed to make a mark. Bebo
finally landed her much needed hit when
she played Poo in Karan Johar's lavish
family saga, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. The
next two years were not so happening, with
a continuous string if flops including
Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Main Prem ki Diwani
Hoon and LOC. In most of her films during
that time, she played a variation of Poo.
She had a fall-out with Karan Johar as she
quoted a high price for Kal Ho Na Ho which
made Preity Zinta's career Yuva, Dev and
Chameli showed her in a completely
different light. The young actress essayed
the role of foul mouthed prostitute
Chameli with intense maturity and
delivered a spontaneous performance as the
free spirited Mira in Mani Ratnam's Yuva,
heralding the arrival of Kareena Kapoor,
the actress.
Kareena did 9 films between 2004 and 2006,
of which only Aitraaz and Omkara
impressed. But she had reason to smile in
the form of upcoming actor and her new
found love, teen heartthrob Shahid Kapoor.
Love blossomed on the sets of Fida and
bloomed through the kissing controversy
where the lovebirds were caught kissing on
camera.
Kareena has credited Shahid for making her
a vegetarian and a better dancer and said
that he has had a soothing effect on her
restless persona. They even appeared on
Koffee with Karan, scoring full marks in
the compatibility round. Their strong
chemistry failed to translate on screen
however in Fida, Chup Chup Ke and 36 China
Town. A voluptuous Kareena seduced Don SRK
in Yeh Mera Dil and disappeared for a
while. She shed the excess pounds and
returned with a bang playing a diva in the
song It's Rocking. The movie is long
forgotten but the song makes people dance
even now.
Jab We Met released in October 2007 and
the rest is history. But something
unexpected happened. Shahid and Kareena
had stuck with each other through thick
and thin and they broke up quite suddenly,
to the shock of one and all. Ironically
their first hit together came after they
were no longer together.
We all know that when God closes a door,
he opens a window and for Bebo, Saif Ali
Khan was the new window. The chhote nawab
is besotted with his light eyed beauty and
stories of their unabashed love affair are
all over the place. They cross the seven
seas to be together, their families
approve of the relationship, they are
doing films together and though Kareena
wants to concentrate on her career, Saif
says wedding bells will ring in the next
two years. The buzz surrounding Saifeena
is unprecendented.
Though initially complimented for her
toned body, Kareena's impossibly slim 49
kg frame in Tashan which she achieved
through Artistic Yoga and dieting, became
a matter of national concern. She is
perfectly healthy now at 53 kg and looks
her very best.
Her career which was on the downside a
couple of years ago is at an all time high
and the actress who always speaks her mind
is realizing some more dreams: shooting
for Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots with Aamir
Khan in Ladakh on her birthday. Multi-starrer
Golmaal Returns is ready for release along
with an animated comedy Roadside Romeo
with beau Saif Ali Khan. 2009 is filled
with some dhamakaedaar releases too. There
is Salman Khan's Main aur Mrs Khanna and
Kambakht Ishq starring Akshay Kumar and
Sly Stallone who is her latest fan. Having
become best buds again, she is doing Karan
Johar's production starring her and Saif.
So what will Kareena's year ahead look
like, we ask numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi
to predict the Bollywood diva's year
ahead.
Born on 21st September 1980, Kareena is a
No.3 (Jupiter) in numerology, a Virgo
(Earth sign) ruled by No.5 (Mercury) & her
destiny number also adds up to No.3. again
( 2 + 1 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 0 = 30 = 3 + 0 =
3 ).
“Kareena will be entering the 29th year (
2 + 9 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2) of her life which
clearly focuses an upliftment in her
personal life and she is most likely to
concretize her relationship with Saif soon
” predicts Bhavikk. He also predicts a
favourable time for marriage post
September 2009 till September 2010 for the
actress.
“On the career front, her performances in
her forthcoming releases Main Aur Mrs.
Khanna and Three Idiots will be much
appreciated. She is correctly wearing a
Yellow Sapphire and an Emerald stone and
should not remove them at any point," he
adds.
Besides Saif, her family and her films,
numerous endorsements keep her busy. Her
green eyes, sexy pout and high cheekbones
lend celebrity status to Globus, Citizen
watches, ITC Soaps and Head and Shoulders.
