What is HIV And AIDS?
AIDS stands for “Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome”. It is a viral disease. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes AIDS. This virus destroys a specific type of white blood cells-the CD4 lymphocyte-a chief component of immune system. AIDS is not a contagious disease. AIDS is spread through sexual contact, needle sharing among drug users and from infected pregnant women to her child. When the immune system is weakened by HIV, people cannot fight against other diseases. They may be extremely harmed by these diseases and may even die.

Pregnant women should take medication to prevent passing of virus to the child. We should take these measures into consideration to be prevented from AIDS. |
