How can you choose to act in a healthful way?

There
are many choices of action during our whole life. Some choices involve our
needs, feelings or actions. Many of the choices have an effect on our
self-esteem and in turn help us to reach wellness. We should also be ready
to bear the results or consequences of our choices. So, we should make
reasonable choices keeping in view the results of these choices.
In a particular situation we can act in many ways. We can act in a good way
to feel better and we can act in a bad way to feel worse instead of better.
For instance a student works very hard to get first position in school exams
and he is sure to stand first in class but he stands third in class. He must
be felt disappointed as he really wanted to get first position. However, he
can choose the way, he can act. First of all he may think to stop hard work
for examination. He may think to show his anger to the students of first and
second position. He also wants to kick something, but all these choices will
not represent him a good boy. He will also feel worse instead of better.
There are some steps which he will follow to make a choice how to act.
(i) He identified his possible choices. He can act in a way to show his
anger, but cannot feel better. He can act in a good way to feel good.
(ii) He thinks that he will have to take the responsibility of the results
of his choices. He thinks acting angry will make him feel worse, but if he
acts as a good loser, it will help him to meet his need of self-esteem.
(iii) He chooses the best way to act. He feels proud of himself for winning
a prize.
(iv) So, he acts in a way that makes him to feel better. He congratulates
the students who get first and second position. Those students like his
behavior and feel good at hearing his congratulation. So he feels that to
react in ways that make him to feel batter. |
