 A kangaroo is a marsupial from the family Macropodidae. In common use the term is used to describe the largest species from this family, the Red Kangaroo, the Antilopine Kangaroo, and the Eastern and Western Grey Kangaroo of the Macropus genus. Arger kangaroos have adapted much better to changes wrought to the Australian landscape by humans and though many of their smaller cousins are endangered, they are plentiful. The interesting fact is that It’s a general myth that Kangaroo got its name by a mere confusion. When the European explorers saw these strange animals for first, they asked a native Australian what they were called. The native replied “kangaroo” meaning ‘I don't understand you’. The explorers understood it to be the animal’s name. And ever since, the animal is known as kangaroo. A kangaroo moves by hopping on its strong legs. A kangaroo can hop upto at 60 km/h. |
