The normal life span of a camel is 40 years, although a working camel retires from active duty at 25. They have broad ridges of bone above each eye act as built-in sun-visors, shielding the eyes.  Small ears prevent sand from getting in them.The reproduction of camels are like other mammals. After a gestation periods of 13 months, a camel cow usually bears a single calf, and occasionally twins.
