The 2012 Volkswagen Passat has been designed and engineered in Germany, but was built in America to cater the American people. Considering some good points at this redesigned vehicle, it has received space at the rear seat, high quality cabin, comes with fuel efficient turbodiesel engine and many upscale features are available as standard.

The vehicle has been entirely redesigned to attract more people. It is also priced at affordable range with added space at the interior and a newly incorporated turbodiesel engine.
This all new midsized sedan has been designed in such a way that it could bring some more customers to the Volkswagen family. The styling and sporty features are the prime features that the manufacturer has considered for the American crowd. To enhance its performance, the VW has added three different engines – a 2.5 liter inline five, a 2.0 liter inline four diesel, and a 280 horsepower 3.6 liter V6. All of them provide near around 6-speed automatic transmission whereas; the two smaller engines come with manual gearboxes as an added feature. The most interesting in the line is its TDI diesel which gives 40mpg on the highway and around 800 miles of maximum cruising range.

This redesigned 2012 Volkswagen Passat Sedan comes in three broad models as mentioned earlier and are further subdivided into three different trim levels – S, SE, and SEL.
The ‘S’ model comes with 2.5 liter standard 16 inches steel wheels. Besides, it boasts full power accessories, Bluetooth, dual zone climate control, keyless entry, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 8-way manual driver seat, steering wheel audio controls, 8-speaker sound system with CD player and an audio input (auxiliary). Its appearance package includes a 6-speed automatic transmission, 16-inch alloy wheels and a back seat center armrest. The vehicle makes an output of 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque with estimated fuel economy at 22mpg city and 31mpg highway. Buyers can choose from 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.
The ‘SE’ trim level offers 17 inches alloy wheels, 6-way power driver seat, chrome exterior trim, heated front seats, leatherette premium vinyl upholstery, sliding front armrest, and a touchscreen audio interface. Choices that customers get with this model are sunroof, and navigation system. Besides, TDI SE owners can consider 18 inches alloy wheels as well as fog lights. These options are standard with the 3.6 liter SE model apart from the navigation system which comes as optional. In the options, a 9-speaker Fender audio system has also been added. The TDI model’s 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel offers 140 horsepower and 236 pound feet of torque. It also comes with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automated manual transmission. It gives 31mpg at city and 43mpg at highway. 3.6 liter V6 engine makes a whopping output of 280 horsepower and 258 pound feet of torque. Its 6-speed dual clutch automated manual transmission comes as standard. The vehicle makes 0-60 mph sprint in 6.4 seconds with estimated fuel economy of 20mpg at city and 28mpg at highway.
SEL model comes with 2.5 liter, Fender sound system, upgraded front seats, and upgraded navigation system. Its premium package includes remote ignition, keyless ignition and entry, fog lights, driver memory functions, power passenger seat, and leather and faux suede upholstery. In SEL style, buyers can add TDI and 3.6 liters. However, the Premium package is termed as compulsory.
Volkswagen Passat 2012 Safety:
A range of standard safety features are available with the 2012 Volkswagen Passat such as antilock brakes, front side airbags, traction and stability control, and side curtain airbags. For crash safety a new feature has been incorporated which is called as Intelligent Crash Response. This feature automatically cuts off the fuel supply, turns on the hazard flashers and unlocks the doors.
